Clinical work is one of the main directions in the activity of the Medical University. Having the great potential of teaching staff consisting of 34 professors (14%), 94 ass.profesors (35%) and 136 instructors (assistants) (51%), the workers of the University clinics improve the qualitative and quantitative indices of city and regional clinical work.
The clinical departments of TSMU are located on the bases of medical-prophylactic institutions of regional and city subordination. Most of the clinical bases are specialized centers, which provide the population with highly specialized medical aid. Such centers include: regional and city gastroenterological departments, regional and city cardiologic departments, regional immunological department, regional thoracic department, regional vascular department, regional and city neurosurgical department, department of minimally invasive surgery, regional center of eye microsurgery, regional otolaryngological department, regional neurologic and psychiatric center, regional oncology dispensary, and regional TB dispensary.
The general bed fund consists of 5540 patient’s beds. There are 23 clinical departments on the specialities of “Medical affair”, “Dentistry”, “Clinical Pharmacy”.

- On the basis of Ternopil regional municipal pediatric clinical hospital there is the department of Pediatrics with Pediatric Surgery; the head of the department is M.D., prof. Olha Yevhenivna Fedortsiv (tel.8 0352 26-90-61);
- The regional clinical municipal oncologic dispensary is the base of Department of Oncology, Radiology Diagnostics and Therapy and Radiation Medicine. The head of the department is M.D., prof. Ihor Yosypovych Halaichuk (tel.8 0352 26-82-80);
- In Ternopil regional clinical phthisiatric dispensary there is the course of phthisiology of the Department of Propeudeutics of Internal Medicine and Phthisiology , headed by ass. prof. Leonid Andriyovych Hryshchuk ( tel. 8 035 25-28-33);
- On the basis of regional municipal clinical psycho-neurological hospital there is the Department of Neurology, Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology; the head of the department is M.D., Prof. Svitlana Ivanivna Shkrobot (tel. 8 035 43-57-74);
Ternopil city municipal hospital of emergency aid is the basis of the Department of General and Operative Surgery with Topographic Anatomy, Traumatology and Orthopedics; the head of the Department is MD, prof. Viktor Oleksandrovych Shidlovsky (tel. 8 035 25- 06-47), and the Department of Infectious Diseases with Epidemiology, and Dermatovenerology, the head of the department is MD, Prof. Mykhailo Antonovych Andreichyn (tel. 8 035 52-47-25).
On the basis of Ternopil city municipal hospital № 2 there are several clinical departments: Department of Internal Medicine Propedeutics and Phthisiology headed by MD, Prof. Serhiy Mykhailovych Andreichyn (tel.8 035 26-13-97); Department of Ambulatory Care and Family Doctor Medicine with medical Equipment, the head of the department is MD, Prof. Volodymyr Bronislavovych Hoshchynsky (tel. 8 035 26-81-55), Department of Surgery, Traumatology and Orthopedics with minimally invasive endoscopic technologies of Faculty of Post-graduate Education, the head of the department is MD Prof. Ihor Yakovych Dzyubanovsky (tel. 8 035 26-81-80), Department of Therapy and Family Medicine of FPE , the head of the department is M.D., Prof. Oleksiy Mykhailovych Masyk (tel. 8 035 26-12-85), Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of FPE, the head of the department is M.D., Prof. Alla Volodymyrivna Boichuk (tel. 8 035 43-26-97).
The Ternopil city municipal hospital N3 is the basis of the Pharmacology Department (headed by Prof. Kateryna Andriyivna Posokhova (tel. 8 035 52-39- 87) with the course of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacy (headed by M.D., Prof. Ivan Mykolayovych Klishch (tel. 8 035 53 -69-69).
On the basis of Ternopil city municipal maternity home there is the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology; the head of the department is M.D., Prof. Larysa Mykhailivna Malanchuk ( tel. 8 03525- 46-16).
The department of Pediatrics of FPE is on the basis of Ternopil city children’s hospital. The head of the department is M.D., Prof. Nataliya Vasylivna Banadyha ( tel. 8035 52-67- 47).
The activity of the clinical departments is regulated by the “Principles of medical-prophylactic institution” and three-part agreement between TSMU, the regional and city health care board, and the head doctors of the city and regional clinical institutions.
The clinical medical –prophylactic institutions of health care are used as bases of scientific and educational subdivisions – the TSMU department and laboratories, as well as for providing medical-diagnostic process, preparing the medical personnel and medical qualification improvement, and introducing the scientific investigations into practice.
The common interests of medical – prophylactic work of TSMU and institutions of practical medicine are:
- examining the decree groups of population for TB, AIDS, diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, heart diseases etc.;
- working out means of prevention of osteopenia, osteoporosis in cardiovascular diseases, respiratory, digestive and urinary diseases, and locomotorium disorders;
- working out prophylactic measures for diphtheria, viral hepatitis, leptospirosis, etc.;
- working out modern methods of treatment of ulcers, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, atherosclerosis, children’s diseases;.
- working out and introducing new methods of operative interventions concerning digestive system organs, vessels, sense organs with the use of minimally invasive technologies.
