Scientific schools of surgeons (Corresponding member of the AMS of Ukraine, Prof. L.Y.Kovalchuk), pharmacologists (Prof. M.P. Skakun), morphologists (Prof. M.S. Hnatyuk), pediatricians, infectionists (Honorary Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Prof. M.A. Andreychyn) have been successfully functioning for many years. Scientific works of these schools are well known in Ukraine and abroad.

At the University 20 scientific themes are being developed in three main directions:
- osteoporosis, diseases of the bones and joints;
- gastroenterology and hepatology;
- cardiovascular diseases.

Scientific investigations are aimed at the creation, improvement and application of new medical technologies according to the criteria of the world novelty:
- experimental modeling the pathological processes, developing the principles of experimental therapy and prevention;
developing, manufacturing and optimal applying cryoconservated xenodermografts in medical practice;
- developing and clinical applying probiotics and specific immunoglobulins;
- clinical applying the technologies of minimally invasive endoscopic surgery;
- application of photooxygenic liquids in enteral and transfuse therapy;
- developing new sorbents for medical usage and introducing them into practice;
- scientific substantiation of the health care system reformation with the aim of its effective functioning in the market conditions.

The invention and rationalization are important components of the scientific work. In different years over 600 authors' certificates and patents of Ukraine confirmed technical inventions devoted to different important problems of experimental and practical medicine. Some of them have been put into the state program of developing medical industries. New Medicines Control Agency of the Ukrainian Ministry of Public Health has given its permission to mass production of the apparatuses for photo-oxygenating transfuse liquids ("Квант- 01") and extracorporal ultraviolet irradiating of the blood "EУФOK". Annual exhibitions of scientific-technical works have become a tradition at the University. Working models and experimental samples of treatment-diagnosis devices, new medical preparations are usually demonstrated at such exhibitions.

The Treatment-Consultation Centre is successfully developing at the University. Computer densimetry, tomography, ultrasound diagnosis departments, clinico-biochemical, immunology, immunoferment; medicogenetic laboratories promote the solution of topical problems of theoretical and practical medicine. The most modern equipment is at the scientists' disposal: immunoferment analyzer "STAT FAX 303 PLUS", biochemical blood analyzer "SCREEN MASTER PLUS", microhysteroscope, microscope PIIO-II, ultrasound Doppler's scanner SDU-350A, densimeter DPX-A of Firm "LUNAR", electrocardiographic complex "CARDIO", roentgenodiagnosis complex "HIRALUX-2", clinical urine analyzer "URI SCREEN", computer tomograph "PIKEP". A gene amplificator of system "PERKIN-ELMER 2400" and emissive computer tomograph ГКС-301 Т „ТАМАРА”are introduced into practice.



The scientists of the University have the possibility to carry out biochemical investigations in the laboratories of the University clinics.



Since 1989 the Central Scientific Research Laboratory has been functioning at the University (the head of the laboratory – Candidate of Biological Sc., senior scientific worker, ass. prof. N.Y. Lisnychuk).



The students willingly work in the scientific circle at the Pathologic Physiology Department.



Scientific investigations at the Pharmacology Department

The scientific interests of the CSRL include study of pathomorphogenesis of the digestive organs disorders depending on the age and organism reactivity, investigation of myocardial hypertrophy regularity depending on the type of blood supply to the heart, peculiarities of homodynamics and vegetative regulation of the heart muscle, determining the immune changes in the organism in pathologic conditions.

Main scientific achievements of the CSRL:
- the reasons of the use of enterosorbents and antioxidants in different hepatobiliary system pathologies have been experimentally substantiated; their optimal combination has been determined;
- the optimal combination of herbal preparations has been studied and their use in acute liver and colon injuries has been pathogenetically substantiated;
- he effective doses of magnetic-laser influence on experimental animals’ organisms for strengthening the adaptation-compensation process in the liver and increasing its xenobiotic resistance have been determined.

Our achievements:
- the vascular surgery indices have beeen worked out and introduced as for surgical treatment of combined atherosclerotic occlusions of brachycephalic arteries and atherosclerotic occlusion of aortic-thigh segment. The differentiated approach to the choice of volume and alternation of reconstructive operation prevents the development of ischemic complications of the brain (prof. L.Y.Kovalchuk);
- the methodics of effective leptospirosis treatment by means of antileptospirosis homologic immunoglobulin, received from the donor’s blood, has been worked out and patented. It reduces the term of hospitalization, complications, and mortality in seriously ill patients from 30% to 8,4% (prof. M.A.Andreychyn)
- the method of pharmacologic correction of pathologic hemodynamic-hemorrhage complex patients with ischemic dysfunctions of the brain circulation depending on the age has been worked out. The age peculiarities of hemorology have been determined, the central and cerebral hemodynamics in ischemic insult argue the approaches to their pathogenic therapy (ass. Prof. S.I.Shkrobot).
- the treatment programs of etio-pathogenic types of heart insufficiency, depending on the ventricle dysfunction, intraventricle interaction, myocardium hypotrophy, level of systemic arterial hypertension, cerebral vascular complications with differentiated application of inhibitors angiotensin-ferment, b-adrenoblockers, Calcium antagonists, preparations of metabolic direction have been substantiated (prof. M.I.Shved).
- it has been stated that diet therapy of chronic obstructive lung diseases in patients who suffered from the disaster at the Chornobyl atomic electro-station gives better results than medicament therapy, but it is accompanied by more evident endogenous intoxication and tension of the vegetative nervous system during the diet. The additional application of enterosorbents and adaptogenes facilitates the diet period (prof. P.P. Kuziv).
- the model of information providing to the Public Health board on the level of the village out-patient clinic is worked out, the methodics of selective medical-statistical data collection for analyzing disease occurrence and mortality in the administrative village and town area, have been introduced; the amount of surgical aid in the village out-patient clinic has been determined (prof. O.M.Holyachenko).
