Ternopil State Medical University named after I.Ya. Gorbachevsky is one of the 10 Ukrainian universities participating in the SAIUP project – the Strengthening Academic Integrity in Ukraine Project. This project is organized by the American Councils for International Education with the participation of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and with the support of the Embassy of the United States of America. (

The purpose of this project is to support the idea of integrity and worthy relations between the participants in the academic process of educational institutions; promotion of practical value and the importance of academic integrity. The project implementation period is four years, which encompasses a full cycle of undergraduate students training.

The introduction of the principles of academic integrity in Ukrainian higher education institutions is a question of raising the quality of higher education, developing reputational capital of the universities themselves, increasing their rating, recognizing university diplomas at European and world levels, and increasing the competitiveness of graduates of these universities. Therefore, it is important to communicate and inform the university community about the importance of applying and promoting the principles of academic integrity within the educational process and scientific activities. A qualitative change in the system of higher education will contribute to the formation of new social values, which will be provided by graduates and students, as well as the teaching staff of the TDMU.

As part of the Academic Integrity Assistance Project in Ukraine, students, faculty and staff of universities will acquire practical knowledge and skills on the basic principles of the concept of “Academic Integrity”, as well as an action plan for implementing these principles in their higher education institutions.
