Nursing Study
The faculty of nursing practice trains medical nurses – bachelors with higher medical education. The applicants with medical education (those who have finished medical institutions of the first-grade accreditation) are admitted to the TSMU. The course of study lasts two academic years for day time department and three academic years for the part-time department.
At first students study fundamental medical and biological disciplines. Then they study clinical subjects and nursing in different situations. Practical training together with theoretical one is given both at different departments of TSMU and clinics. The graduates get the diploma of bachelor. Their qualification allows to occupy administrative posts and work as medical nurses of different profile.
Thus, favorable conditions are provided to efficiently train junior specialists and apply the system of continuous staged training by comprehensive curricula and programs for medical nurses with the basic higher medical education – bachelor-nurses.
- To reform the education is impossible without expanding international cooperation with other Universities abroad, and these activities are carried on along the following directions:
- Foreign scientists are invited for teaching and research. Citizens of other countries are taught on basic of interstate and bilateral agreements
- International activities: training specialists and science workers, realizing international projects, services etc.
- Steps are being taken for the educational sector of Ukraine to join the international treaties on preliminary training of persons who are going to apply to higher institutions
- Assistance is provided in establishing and supporting direct contacts of educational institutions of Ukraine with other states
- International science conferences, symposiums, exhibitions, presentations are organized and participated by the TSMU
The TSMU carries on these activities in compliance with the acting legislation and the Rules of the University. Wide international cooperation helps to raise the organizational standard and improving the teaching/studying process.
WORKPLACE
Nurses work in hospitals, clinics, maternity hospitals, private clinics, children’s institutions, military units, sanatoriums and rest homes.
Demand
The profession of a nurse is quite highly demanded. These employees are required in each medical institution. The same, especially private ones constantly appear in our country.
Important qualities
The former name of this profession is “sister of mercy”. The mercy and sympathy of the pain of others is one of the most important qualities of a nurse. To this must be attached attentiveness, accuracy and responsibility.
Also important are good coordination of movements (this is especially important for operational, procedural, ward nurses), good memory, the desire for professional growth. Good health and stamina. It is important to understand that a nurse is a profession that requires a high level of stress tolerance. Patients are different and not all recover. Also, this profession involves a high level of concentration, accuracy, accuracy, responsibility and ability to self-organize.
Job responsibilities
Provides first aid, collects biological materials for laboratory research. Carries out care for patients in the medical organization and at home. Carries out the sterilization of medical instruments, dressing facilities and items for patient care. He assists during medical treatment and diagnostic manipulations and small operations in outpatient and inpatient conditions. It trains patients for various types of research, procedures, operations, and outpatient medical appointments. Provides performance of medical appointments. Provides accounting, storage, use of medicines and ethyl alcohol. Keeps personal records, information (computer) database of the health status of the population served. Supervises the activities of nursing staff. Keeps medical records. Conducts sanitary and educational work among patients and their relatives on health promotion and disease prevention, promotion of a healthy lifestyle. It collects and disposes of medical waste. It implements measures to comply with the sanitary and hygienic regime, aseptic and antiseptic rules, conditions of sterilization of tools and materials, prevention of post-injection complications, hepatitis, HIV infection.
